Goethe University Frankfurt is a university in Frankfurt, Germany. The university describes itself as one of the largest universities in Germany and as the first German university rooted in a civic tradition. Teaching and research cover a wide range of disciplines, from the humanities and social sciences to the natural, life and medical sciences. The university is spread across five campuses in the city:

  • Westend Campus
  • Riedberg Campus
  • Niederrad Campus
  • Ginnheim Campus
  • Bockenheim Campus

Goethe University is part of the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU), an alliance with Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and TU Darmstadt. The RMU offers joint degree programmes in which students divide their studies between two universities, and in October 2026 it was named an Excellence Alliance, with funding starting in 2027. Research at the university includes the SCALE (SubCellular Architecture of LifE) Cluster of Excellence, and the university runs its own art museum, the Giersch Museum (MGGU).
