Kenyon College is a private liberal arts college in Gambier, Ohio, a small college town about an hour from Columbus. Founded in 1824, it describes itself as the oldest private college in Ohio. Kenyon has 1,589 students, an average class size of 15 and an international student population from 53 countries.

The college offers more than 50 majors, minors and concentrations in the humanities, arts, social sciences and natural sciences, with the option to double major or design an individual major. Writing is a strong focus across subjects, and students can work with the literary magazine Kenyon Review. More than 250 study abroad and off-campus programmes take students to over 50 countries.

International applicants apply through the Common App or Coalition App, must show English proficiency unless their secondary schooling was in English, and can contact the admissions office at [email protected]. Testing is optional and all applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships. The college states that it meets 100% of demonstrated financial need. All students live on campus.

More than 50 majors, minors and concentrations, with the option to double major or design a major. Examples:

  • Humanities: English and creative writing, history, philosophy, classics, film
  • Languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and others
  • Social sciences: economics, political science, international studies, psychology
  • Natural sciences: biology, neuroscience, chemistry, physics, mathematics and statistics
  • Arts: studio art, music, dance, drama

Pre-professional advising covers health and medicine, law and business, and dual-degree engineering partnerships.

Admission Requirements

First-year applicants, including international students, apply through the Common App or Coalition App and submit the secondary school report with transcript, a counselor recommendation, a teacher evaluation and a mid-year report. Kenyon is test optional. Interviews are recommended but not required; international applicants can use InitialView or Vericant. The college offers two Early Decision rounds and Regular Decision.

Language Requirements

International students must submit an English proficiency exam unless their secondary school taught primarily in English. Recommended scores:

  • Duolingo English Test 130 or higher
  • IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator 7.0 or higher
  • TOEFL (including iBT Home Edition) 100 or higher

Fees

Comprehensive fee for the 2026-27 academic year: tuition US$72,880, housing US$9,080 (double room), meals US$10,780 and student activities fee US$350, a total of US$93,090. All students live on campus and use the universal meal plan.

Financial Aid

All applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships, and separate applications are possible for talent scholarships and the KEEP and STEM programmes. Kenyon states that it meets 100% of demonstrated need, with aid packages that last four years and extend to study abroad. A financial aid director is assigned to international students.

Housing

All students live on campus in 25 residence halls, from historic stone buildings to modern apartments with kitchens. Housing is charged at one rate and includes unlimited dining and free laundry.
