Mar de Estrellas International Montessori School
Primary and secondary school in Mutxamel, Spain
Mar de Estrellas International Montessori School is a small Montessori school in the Alicante area that provides a full education in English for children aged 0 to 13. According to the school, it is a recognised foreign school following the United States education system, with official accreditation. It is run by Inspiring Education SL, and its team states that it has more than 20 years of experience in Montessori education.
English is the main language of the school. Teaching follows the Montessori curriculum in a prepared environment: classes mix ages, children move freely in the classroom and freely choose work that has already been introduced to them, and teachers give individual or small-group presentations in the sequence set by the curriculum. There are clear rules but no rewards or punishments, and each pupil is followed and assessed individually. A monthly plan of projects, experiments and events is complemented by school trips and workshops led by outside experts. The school makes its own Montessori materials.
Other features include a violin and piano project, Mandarin Chinese classes, outdoor activities, healthy and nutritious meals, and a reforestation project in Costa Rica.
