Meridian school of English

Online and distance learning in Portsmouth, The United Kingdom

Meridian School of English is a British English language school founded in 1979 and accredited by the British Council. It is part of the Tellus Education Group, which also includes Tellus College. The school once ran residential centres for young learners across the UK, but in 2020 it moved its teaching fully online, and it now offers live online English classes for children aged 5 to 12.

Lessons last 30 minutes and are taught live in virtual classes by British-qualified teachers, using an Oxford University Press curriculum and following the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Children are placed by age and level of English in one of three age groups:

  • Pre-primary courses for ages 5-6
  • Primary courses for ages 7-9
  • Early-secondary courses for ages 10-12

Classes take place two or three times a week, and courses are booked as 3-month or 6-month packages or by subscription. Every session is recorded, and parents can follow attendance and teacher feedback through a student portal. The school states that the courses are not designed for learners who only want exam preparation or self-paced study.
