Minot State University is a public university in Minot, North Dakota, and part of the North Dakota University System. It was founded in 1913 as Minot Normal School, a teacher-training college. Today it offers more than 100 areas of study at undergraduate and graduate level, has a total enrolment of 2,747 students and an 11:1 student-to-professor ratio. Students come from across the United States and over 55 countries.
Undergraduate programmes range from nursing, radiologic technology and communication sciences to business, computer science, cybersecurity, education and the arts. Graduate programmes include education, special education, management, speech-language pathology, counselling and cybersecurity. Minot State charges one flat tuition rate to all students, wherever they come from.
The Office of International Programs advises international students on F-1 visa matters, organises study abroad and coordinates exchanges with partner universities. International applicants are informed of their admission status within two weeks of submitting all documents. Students can live in residence halls or campus apartments.

International first-year applicants submit the online application with a US$35 application fee, a document-by-document evaluation of their secondary school credentials by WES or ECE, one official entrance exam score, the Application for Form I-20 with proof of financial support, and a copy of their passport. Applicants who have completed at least 24 semester hours of university study apply as transfer students with a course-by-course evaluation. Applicants receive an email about their admission status within two weeks of submitting all documents.
All international undergraduate applicants submit one official test result from this list:
- TOEFL iBT 71 (tests before 21 January 2026) or 4 (tests from 21 January 2026)
- IELTS 6.0 overall band
- Duolingo English Test 105
- PTE Academic 50
- SAT total 920 or ACT composite 17 with English 18
Two years of study at a regionally accredited US institution exempt applicants from the test.
Estimated annual cost for international undergraduates, 2026-27 (fall and spring semesters, in US dollars): tuition and fees US$9,733, housing and food US$9,200 (double room) and compulsory health insurance US$2,280, a total of US$21,213. Minot State charges one flat tuition rate for 12-18 credits.
International students are not eligible for US federal or state need-based aid and must certify their own financial support. Minot State offers scholarships for new and returning students and states that it awards nearly US$5 million in scholarships and aid each year.
Students can choose residence halls, such as Cook Hall and McCulloch Hall, or campus apartments for more independence. Several meal plans are available.
