Quattrocento Escuela Taller de Arte y Restauracion
Vocational school in Madrid, Spain
Quattrocento is a workshop school (escuela-taller) for art restoration in Madrid, at Calle San Vicente Ferrer 48, near the Noviciado and Tribunal metro stations. Its restoration workshop has been working since 1989 for private clients, companies and public and private institutions, and its courses are taught in the same fully equipped workshop space.
Courses are mainly practical, with hands-on work from the first day and theory applied to each subject. They are offered in small groups or individually, for all ages and levels, and no previous experience or knowledge is required. The courses cover:
- Painting restoration (canvas, panel and other supports)
- Restoration of polychrome sculpture
- Woodcarving
- Gilding, including water gilding, mordant gilding, silvering and corlado
- Furniture restoration
- Marquetry
In the restoration courses, students work on a piece through the whole conservation-restoration process and complete it with a technical report. Teachers also advise on traditional and current techniques, intervention criteria, materials and tools.
