Semente Compostela is a non-profit school in Santiago de Compostela (Moas de Abaixo, 20) for children aged 2 to 12, covering early childhood education and primary school. It is approved by the Galician government, follows the official curriculum and is accredited by NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges). The school belongs to the Semente network of Galician-language schools, a social initiative first promoted by the cultural association Gentalha do Pichel and named after the Galician teaching schools founded by the Irmandades da Fala in the early 20th century.
Galician is the language of school life; the school was created so that children do not lose their language when they start school, and English is also used as a vehicular language. Teaching is project-based, without textbooks, in flexible mixed-age groups and with frequent time outdoors.
- Kindergarten (early childhood education, from age 2)
- Primary school (up to age 12)
- Afternoon courses for children aged 3 to 16, such as Gaelic football, traditional dance, bagpipes and theatre
Pre-registration opens each year on 1 March through an online form.
