Admission Requirements

International undergraduates apply through the Common Application or the SUNY Application (free from 15 September to 2 November); applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and decisions usually take a couple of days once the file is complete. First-year applicants submit:

  • All secondary school academic documents (transcripts, exam scores, mark sheets) in English and the original language; official copies are required before the programme starts
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • A 250-500 word personal essay in English and one recommendation letter from a teacher or counsellor

Students are admitted to the university rather than to a major; some majors have extra requirements. An academic credential evaluation may be requested.

Language Requirements

Minimum English scores for international first-year applicants:

  • TOEFL iBT 76 (or 4 on the new scale)
  • IELTS 6
  • Duolingo 110
  • PTE 53

The requirement may be waived for students educated in an English-speaking country, who have studied in the US for two years, or who completed the IB programme or similar. Applicants without these scores can ask about conditional admission.
