Svenska Skolan Gran Canaria (Colegio Sueco) is a Swedish school in San Agustín, in the south of Gran Canaria, founded in 1965. It is located in the Rocas Rojas area, a short walk from the sea, and offers a Swedish preschool and primary school following the Swedish national curriculum. The school is approved by the Swedish state, inspected by the Swedish Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen) and receives state funding from the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket), which has a representative on the school board. Pupils returning to Sweden go straight back into the Swedish school system.

  • Preschool (ages 3-5)
  • Förskoleklass to Year 6, taught in the mixed classes F-1, 2-3 and 4-6
  • Years 7-9 by distance learning with Sofia Distans, supervised on site
  • Upper secondary by distance learning with Hermods, supervised on site
  • After-school club (fritids)

All teaching is in Swedish except Spanish and English lessons, which start from age 3. Pupils stay anything from a few days to several years, so the school takes both resident families and families spending a short time on the island. Children must be at least 3 and out of nappies, and pupils in the preschool class to Year 6 need a citizenship other than only Spanish. The 2026-27 autumn term starts on 26 August 2026.
