Tennessee State University (TSU) is a public, land-grant university in Nashville, Tennessee (United States), founded in 1912 and one of the country's historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). It has two campuses: a 500-acre main campus along the Cumberland River and the downtown Avon Williams campus. TSU is classified as a Carnegie R2 doctoral university with high research activity and has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1946.
Its colleges cover agriculture, business, education, engineering, health sciences, liberal arts, life and physical sciences and public service, plus a School of Graduate & Professional Studies with master's and doctoral programmes. Research areas include agriculture, biotechnology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and astrophysics.
International applicants pay a US$25 application fee and submit transcripts with a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-approved agency, proof of English proficiency (for example TOEFL iBT 61 or IELTS 5.0) and financial documents for the I-20. The Office of International Affairs handles visa documents, and the university runs an Intensive English Program. Housing includes traditional residence halls, suite-style halls and apartments on campus.
