All courses are taught in English. Graphic design courses cover graphics, logos, layout, branding, photography, video, interactive media and illustration; interior courses cover space planning, furniture and interior design.

The master's programmes are taught in English and require a degree in a compatible design field plus a portfolio. The Master of Furniture Design (usually for graduates in interior design, architecture or industrial design) includes Rhinoceros and 3D printing, prototyping and technical visits, for example to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.

Applications are made online and there is no application fee. Applicants normally provide the application form, a copy of their passport or EU identity card and their most recent academic records.

• Diploma (1 year) and Advanced Diploma (2 years): minimum age 18 and a high school diploma (12th or 13th grade), or two GCE A-levels in the UK system; no design experience required
• BA (Hons): secondary education suitable for university entry and evidence of interest in art and design
• Master: a degree in a compatible design field and a portfolio of three university projects
• Semester: a Course Approval Form completed by the home university
• Summer courses: only the online summer application form

All courses at FIDI are taught in English, so applicants need enough English to take part in lectures, tutorials, studio work, presentations and written assignments. Applicants to the bachelor's degrees, for financial aid or as teaching assistants must provide evidence of English-language ability, and specific requirements may apply to degree programmes.

An academic year has 30 weeks of classes, starting at the end of August or in mid-January, with a two-week spring break at Easter.

Upcoming course start dates: 18 January 2027, 30 August 2027, 17 January 2028 and 4 September 2028, with orientation the week before classes. Financial aid applicants must send a portfolio 90 days before the start date, and tuition fees must be paid at least 60 days before classes begin.

Students find their own accommodation. The school advises securing housing for at least the first semester before arrival, as prices rise closer to the start date, and can add students to its housing Facebook group and online housing forum. Approximate monthly prices given by the school:

• Room in a shared apartment outside the centre: from €500 plus expenses
• Single room in the city centre: about €650-750 plus expenses
• Studio apartment: from about €850 plus expenses

Utilities cost at least €200 a month; agents charge 5-10% commission and a deposit of one month's rent is usual. For the first days, the school suggests hostels 10-15 minutes' walk away.
