The King's University

University in Edmonton, Canada

The King's University is a Christian university in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was established in 1979 as The King's College, and its faith tradition is ecumenical, with the Christian Reformed Church as its founding denomination. All of its programmes are approved by the Government of Alberta. According to the university, it has 880 students, a 15:1 student/faculty ratio and an average class size of 22, with students from 52 nations.

King's offers a liberal arts education from a Christian perspective through four faculties:

  • Faculty of Arts & Social Science (e.g. English, History, Music, Psychology)
  • Faculty of Natural Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Kinesiology)
  • Faculty of Education (Elementary and Secondary Education)
  • Leder School of Business (Bachelor of Commerce)

Degrees include three- and four-year B.A. and B.Sc. programmes, a four-year B.Kin. and B.Com., and a two-year B.Ed. after-degree, plus minors and non-degree certificates. Internships, practicum placements and off-campus field learning are part of the programmes. Students can live in the on-campus residence, which includes the Tower and the South Campus Apartments, with Community Care Leaders on every floor.

  • Natural Science: Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Interdisciplinary Science (B.Sc., 3 or 4 years); Kinesiology (B.Kin., 4 years)
  • Education: Elementary and Secondary Education (B.Ed., 2-year after-degree)
  • Business: B.Com. (4 years) with concentrations including Accounting, International Business and Marketing
  • Minors and non-degree certificates

Fees

Tuition and fees per term for the 2026-27 academic year (CAD, full course load of 15.5 credits):

  • International students: tuition CA$11,997 (CA$774 per credit); non-refundable admissions deposit CA$500 and tuition deposit CA$5,000, both credited against tuition
  • Domestic students: tuition CA$7,998 (CA$516 per credit), student fees CA$1,070.78, orientation fee CA$160

The university suggests that international students budget about CA$29,000 for a year, including tuition, residence and meal plan, fees, books and living expenses. Fees are due at the beginning of each term.

  • Winter term 2027, early application deadline for international applicants: 16 October 2026
  • Winter term 2027 application deadline: 2 December 2026
  • Financial aid and campus employment application deadline: 26 March 2027
  • Fall term 2027, early application deadline for international applicants: 15 April 2027

Winter term classes begin on 6 January 2027.

Housing

King's has an on-campus residence with floors in the Tower and the South Campus Apartments. Community Care Leaders live on every floor to support residents, and Student Life staff are also available. Amenities include high-speed wi-fi, study, media and kitchen lounges, laundry facilities, a cafeteria, a workout centre and music practice rooms. Meal plans (basic or limited) are offered with residence.

Accredited by the Alberta Government through the Campus Alberta Quality Council; member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC).
