The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is a university in central London that specialises in the social sciences. It was founded by social reformers in 1895, and its main address is Houghton Street, London. LSE has students from over 140 countries, and 40% of its staff come from outside the UK. According to the university, it was ranked top in the UK for 2025 and 2026 by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.

Admission

Undergraduate applications go through UCAS and include a personal statement; on receipt of the UCAS form LSE assesses the applicant's fee status. Graduate applicants use LSE's online application system to submit the application form and all supporting documents. Scholarships and financial aid

LSE offers bursaries and scholarships to students with Overseas fee status, funded by private donations; their number, value and eligibility vary from year to year. The Uggla Family Scholars Programme offers up to ten scholarships for UK and Overseas students. LSE Access to Education Scholarships cover tuition and living costs for asylum seekers, refugees and people with humanitarian protection. Separate scholarships exist for graduate study.

Housing

LSE allocates accommodation to over 4,000 students each year in its own halls, in University of London intercollegiate residences and in private halls. Halls include Robeson House (for graduate students only), Rosebery Hall in Islington and Butler's Wharf Residence near Tower Bridge. LSE also runs a private housing service, can act as rent guarantor and offers short-term rooms in halls over the summer.
