Academic and English language entry requirements are listed for each course, and the university publishes the qualifications it accepts from each country or region. Questions about qualifications go to the International Office ([email protected]), and the university also works with representatives in many countries. Students whose qualifications do not give direct entry can apply for the International Foundation Year, which prepares them for an undergraduate degree at Leeds.
Requirements are set in IELTS (Academic or UKVI Academic, taken at a test centre and no more than two years old at the course start). Minimum levels:
- Undergraduate: IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component, or TOEFL iBT 80 (tests taken before 21 January 2026)
- Master's: IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component, or TOEFL iBT 88 (tests taken before 21 January 2026)
Some courses ask for higher scores, other English qualifications are accepted, and a pre-sessional English course can be used to meet the requirement.
The university offers scholarships for international undergraduate and postgraduate students. Other options include:
- A 10% alumni tuition fee bursary for former Leeds students
- Sanctuary scholarships for forced migrants to the UK
- Funding for master's and PhD students through partner organisations in Latin America
- US federal or private loans and Canadian national and provincial loans
- University funding for international research degree students
