Universal English College (UEC) is a private English language college in the centre of Sydney, Australia, at 203 Clarence Street, within a five-minute walk of several transport options. It was established in 1988 and is registered for international students under CRICOS provider code 00053J. The school states that it has about 150 students from 130 nationalities.
UEC offers eight courses, including:
- General English, six levels from Starter to Advanced, day or evening
- IELTS exam preparation
- Cambridge exam preparation
- Academic English Program (AEP) for entry to further study
- High School Preparation
- Junior and kids holiday programmes
All classes are taught face to face on campus, with up to 18 students per class. General English starts every Monday; the Academic English Program starts every five weeks and, according to the school, is recognised by more than 50 Australian universities and colleges for direct entry without IELTS. Students must be at least 16 for daytime General English classes and 18 for evening classes. UEC arranges homestays with Australian families and places in student residences, and its Student Services team helps with accommodation, transport and overseas student health cover.

Classes have up to 18 students and all students receive a certificate showing the course, length and level achieved.
General English has no English or academic entry requirement: students are placed in one of six levels, from Starter to Advanced. The Academic English Program requires at least an intermediate level (IELTS 4.5 or equivalent for AEP1, 5.0 for AEP2, 5.5 for AEP3), shown by the UEC online placement test or another test result.
Standard fees for 2026, in Australian dollars (GST included where applicable):
- General English, IELTS or Cambridge preparation: A$420 per week (1-3 weeks), A$400 (4-19 weeks), A$390 (20-29 weeks), A$380 (30 weeks or more)
- Academic English Program: A$4,000 for 10 weeks, A$15,200 for 40 weeks
- High School Preparation: A$550 per week
- Application fee (non-refundable): A$250; materials: A$80 (1-4 weeks) or A$17 per week
- Homestay, half board (under 18 with caregiving): A$520 per week; student residence single room: A$510 per week
UEC arranges homestays with selected Australian families, inspected regularly, with two meals a day on weekdays and three at weekends; homestays are 30 to 60 minutes from the college by public transport. It can also arrange purpose-built student residences within 15 minutes' walk of the campus, with air-conditioned rooms, wi-fi and cleaning. For longer stays, providers such as Unilodge, Iglu and Scape are suggested, and serviced apartments and hostels are options for short stays. The school recommends a homestay or residence for the first four weeks.
