The Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) is a university whose main campus, the Sede Rodrigo Facio Brenes, is in Montes de Oca, San José, Costa Rica; some degree programmes are taught at regional campuses (Sedes Regionales). It describes itself as a "meritorious institution of Costa Rican education and culture".
UCR teaches more than a hundred bachelor's-level degree programmes (carreras de grado) approved by its Centro de Evaluación Académica, as well as shorter diploma and specialisation certificate programmes and postgraduate studies through its Sistema de Estudios de Posgrado. Subject areas include:
- Arts and letters, such as music, design, philosophy and modern and classical languages
- Engineering and architecture
- Education
- Agriculture and food sciences
- Health sciences, including medicine
- Social sciences
- Economics and business
- Basic sciences
Admission to undergraduate study requires an academic aptitude test (PAA) with mathematical and verbal reasoning items, and some programmes have additional special requirements. The academic year is organised in teaching cycles, and students can apply for socio-economic scholarships. Foreign students can check on the enrolment system how to pay enrolment fees at the rate for national students.

Admission
Applicants must take UCR's admission exam, the academic aptitude test (PAA), which assesses mathematical and verbal reasoning rather than memorised knowledge. Some programmes also have special requirements that must be met regardless of the PAA score; for 2027 entry, the list is published by the Vicerrectoría de Docencia in June. Official dates and requirements are given by the Oficina de Registro.
