The Université de Guyane (University of French Guiana) is the university of French Guiana, in the heart of the Amazon. Its main campuses are in Cayenne and Kourou, and it also has sites in Saint-Georges and Saint-Laurent.

Teaching is organised in departments of humanities, health, science and technology, and legal and economic sciences, together with the IUT de Kourou (university institute of technology), the INSPÉ teacher training institute and a continuing education service. Qualifications include:

  • BUT (university technology bachelor's) at the IUT de Kourou
  • Licence (bachelor's degree) and licence professionnelle
  • Master's degrees
  • University diplomas
  • Doctorate through its doctoral school

Research units include UMR EcoFoG, UMR Espace-Dev and UR COVAPAM, and the university presents itself as closely connected to the knowledge and traditions of the Amazon. The university takes part in Erasmus+ and in Amazonian cooperation, for example with the UFPA in Pará, and is part of the Tropimundo network. Students living outside the EU apply through the Études en France procedure; the university also offers language learning.

Admission Requirements

All new students must apply before registering. First-year applications (PASS, L1, BUT 1) go through Parcoursup, later years and licences professionnelles through eCandidat, Master 1 through Mon Master and Master 2 through eCandidat. Non-EU applicants who live outside the European Union apply through the Études en France (Study in France) procedure at any level; those living in French Guiana, the EU or a country not covered by that scheme follow the university's own L1 procedure or eCandidat/Mon Master.
