The Université de Lorraine is a multidisciplinary university in the cross-border Lorraine region of France, with its presidency in both Metz and Nancy and campuses throughout the region. It has around 60,000 students, including about 10,000 international students from 160 nationalities, and the university states that it is the leading French university for Erasmus outgoing mobility. It is placed in the 201-300 band of the Shanghai Ranking and is a member of the EURECA-PRO European university alliance.

Programmes cover every field, from undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to PhDs and lifelong learning. International options include:

  • Erasmus Mundus joint master's programmes, such as EMLex in lexicography and DENSYS in decentralised energy systems
  • Short programmes and summer schools
  • Exchanges under some 1,400 Erasmus+ agreements and 500 other international partnerships
  • Student entrepreneurship training through the PeeL centre

Students from outside the EU usually apply through the Études en France platform (Campus France), and others through eCandidat from March each year; tuition fees for non-EU students differ from the standard fees. Halls of residence are run by CROUS, and the university helps international students find housing, including through its Studapart platform.

Admission

  • Students from outside the EU apply through the Études en France platform (Campus France) and then follow the enrolment conditions for their programme
  • Students from other universities in France or the EU, and non-EU students living in France or in a country without the Campus France procedure, apply online through eCandidat from March each year (MonMaster for a first-year master's)
  • After acceptance, students pay the Student Life and Campus Contribution (CVEC) and enrol online from early July

Housing

Halls of residence near the campuses are managed by the regional student services body CROUS. The university guides international students through the application process and provides a list of accommodation options. Through its online platform with Studapart, students can find studios, flatshares and rooms with live-in landlords; Studapart can also act as guarantor for students without a guarantor in France. Students may be eligible for the free Visale rental guarantee, the LOCA-PASS deposit advance (up to €1,200) and CAF housing assistance (APL or ALS).
