The Université de Montpellier (University of Montpellier) is a public university in Montpellier, in the Occitanie region of southern France. Its history goes back to 1220, and the present university was created in 2015 by merging two Montpellier universities. It has 54,210 students and 17 faculties, schools and institutes, including university institutes of technology (IUT) in Béziers, Nîmes and Montpellier-Sète, and offers around 650 programmes. According to the university, it is in the top 200 of the Shanghai ranking.

Each year the university welcomes more than 10,000 international students from over 150 countries. It offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes taught entirely in English, which require no prior knowledge of French, among them the 13 English-taught master's tracks of the IDIL graduate programme. A Welcome Desk helps international students with formalities such as visas, accommodation and insurance, and French as a foreign language courses are available. From the 2026 academic year, higher (differentiated) tuition fees apply to some non-EU international students.

Undergraduate programmes are taught in the university's faculties, schools and institutes:

- Sciences, and engineering at Polytech Montpellier
- Sport sciences (STAPS) and education
- Technology programmes at the IUTs of Béziers, Montpellier-Sète and Nîmes
Some bachelor's degrees are taught in English; there are also short programmes, summer schools and certificates, and work-study (apprenticeship) programmes.
Master's and doctoral studies include programmes taught entirely in English:
- IDIL (Interdisciplinary In-Lab) graduate programme: 13 English-taught master's tracks in fields such as bio-health, political science, chemistry, agronomy, electronics, water and earth sciences, engineering, management and microbiology, with two six-month laboratory internships
- Master's in Global Challenges for Sustainable Development of the European CHARM-EU alliance
- Erasmus Mundus master's programmes in the Faculty of Science
- PhD programmes in English
The university has nine doctoral schools.
Admission depends on the level and the applicant's situation: first-year bachelor's places are allocated through the national Parcoursup platform and first-year master's places through MonMaster. Applicants going through a specific procedure, such as Études en France for international students, contact the relevant faculty, school or institute directly.
For 2026-27 registration, students need, depending on their situation, a CVEC certificate (Student and Campus Life Contribution, flat fee of €105 unless exempt), proof of identity, diplomas and transcripts, and a certificate of civil liability insurance. Administrative registration begins in early July.
