The Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) is a university in the Yvelines department of France, created in 1991 and a founding member of the Université Paris-Saclay. It has five campuses (Versailles, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Vélizy-Villacoublay, Rambouillet and Mantes) and about 23,000 students in initial and continuing education.

UVSQ offers more than 200 degree programmes, from the BUT to the doctorate, including health and engineering degrees, in ten faculties and institutes:

  • Law and political science
  • Sciences and the Observatoire de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (OVSQ)
  • Social sciences and cultural and international studies (IECI)
  • Health (UFR Simone Veil - Santé)
  • Management (ISM-IAE) and the ISTY engineering school
  • Two university institutes of technology (IUT de Mantes, IUT de Vélizy - Rambouillet)

It has 38 research units. The university reports being ranked 24th in France and 873rd in the world in the 2026 Shanghai ranking. UVSQ has cooperation agreements with more than 200 partner universities and receives over a hundred exchange students each year, besides students enrolling individually. Its language centre (CEREL) runs French courses for international students throughout the year, and a foreign students' office provides support.

Programmes

Undergraduate qualifications include the licence (bachelor's degree), licence professionnelle, BUT (university technology bachelor's), engineering degree, medical studies and university diplomas (DU), as well as the DAEU university access diploma. Fields cover the sciences, languages and literature, law, political science, humanities, health, economics, management, engineering and technology, with options such as sport sciences, computing, cosmetics and perfumery.

Graduate programmes

Master's and doctoral degrees are delivered within the Graduate Schools of the Université Paris-Saclay. UVSQ leads three of them (Humanities and Heritage Sciences; Sociology and Political Science; Geosciences, Climate, Environment and Planets) and co-leads three others (Chemistry, Law, Public Health). It has about 470 doctoral candidates, 40% of them international.

Admission

Students from the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, and holders of a French secondary or higher-education diploma, apply in the same way as French students. Other international students follow a specific application procedure published by the university, which refers to the TCF (Test de connaissance du français).
