The Université Paris Nanterre (UPN) is a multidisciplinary university in the Hauts-de-Seine department of the Île-de-France region, with about 35,000 students and 41 research units. It has three sites: Nanterre, Ville-d'Avray and Saint-Cloud. The main campus in Nanterre is a 32-hectare green campus with sports and cultural facilities, and it also houses La Contemporaine (library, archives and museum of the contemporary world), the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme-Mondes and the Bernard-Marie Koltès theatre.
Teaching and research cover four main areas:
- Arts, literature and languages
- Law, economics and management
- Humanities and social sciences
- Science, technology and health, including engineering sciences and sport sciences
The university has six doctoral schools and states that more than 5,800 international students choose it each year, as exchange students, through individual mobility (Études en France) or as students in exile. It has more than 500 partner institutions in about 80 countries, takes part in Erasmus+ and Erasmus Mundus master's programmes, offers double degrees and is a founding member of the European Digital UniverCity (EDUC) alliance. A Welcome Desk supports international arrivals.
