University of Bern
University, Graduate school in Bern, Switzerland
The University of Bern (Universität Bern) is a comprehensive university in Bern, the Swiss capital, founded in 1834. It is organised into eight faculties with around 150 institutes and nine inter- and transdisciplinary competence centres. Its main building is at Hochschulstrasse 4, 3012 Bern.
Besides its degree programmes, the university offers doctoral studies (PhD) and, according to its 2026 programme, more than 140 continuing education programmes. Among its master's programmes is a master's in Business Administration (BWL), which students can take as generalists or with a specialisation. The website has dedicated sections for prospective students, international students and doctoral candidates, and registration is online.
For international mobility, the University of Bern has more than 300 partner universities around the world, which offer opportunities for an exchange semester. Women have studied in Bern for a long time: in 1870 a Russian woman enrolled as a regular student, and from 1906 Anna Tumarkin taught as the first female professor in Bern.
