The University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) is a public research university in Irvine, Orange County, in Southern California, founded in 1965. More than 36,000 students were enrolled in 2024-25. According to U.S. News & World Report, UC Irvine has been ranked among the top 10 public universities in the United States for 12 years in a row, and in 2026 it placed eighth among public universities on the Best Colleges list.
The university offers more than 220 programmes, including:
- Undergraduate majors and minors
- Master's, doctoral and professional degrees
- Continuing education for working professionals
- Health sciences through the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences and UCI Health
Undergraduates can take part in faculty-supervised research, the Campuswide Honors Collegium and a study abroad programme open to every major, and new students are supported by a First-Year Experience programme. There are separate admission routes for first-year, transfer and international applicants at undergraduate and graduate level, and an Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The campus offers student housing, dining, student organisations and athletics, and in-person or virtual campus tours are available.
