University of Cape Coast

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is a public research university in Cape Coast, Ghana. It was established in October 1962 as a university college in a special relationship with the University of Ghana, Legon, and became a full and independent university on 1 October 1971, originally to train graduate teachers for Ghana's secondary schools. The university reports a total student population of 74,720, of whom 48,989 are distance undergraduates.

UCC lists more than 527 active programmes, organised in colleges that include:

• College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences
• College of Education Studies
• College of Health and Allied Sciences
• College of Humanities and Legal Studies
• College of Distance Education

The catalogue includes 139 bachelor's degrees, undergraduate diplomas and certificates, 276 master's programmes, 93 doctoral programmes and 19 postgraduate diplomas and certificates. Ghanaian applicants need WASSCE/SSSCE results that meet each programme's cut-off points; international applicants apply through international.ucc.edu.gh and are supported by the Office of International Relations. According to the university, many students currently live in private hostels in the surrounding communities.
