University, Graduate school in Legon, Ghana
The University of Ghana was founded on 11 August 1948 as the University College of the Gold Coast. It is organised in a collegiate system with four colleges (Basic and Applied Sciences, Education, Health Sciences and Humanities), and its central administration includes a School of Graduate Studies and an Office of International Programmes. The university reports 63,646 undergraduate and 9,509 graduate students, including 667 international students, on its Main Campus, City Campus and Korle-Bu Campus. Research centres include the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.
Undergraduate degrees cover a wide range of fields, for example:
- Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
- Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB), Dental Surgery (BDS) and Public Health
- Science, engineering and agriculture
- Administration, education and actuarial science
Graduate programmes lead to master's degrees (MA, MSc, MPhil, executive MBA) and PhDs. International students from more than 70 countries join regular programmes or study abroad and other special programmes. Housing is available in traditional university halls and UGEL hostels, and academic fees differ for Ghanaian and international students.

Housing
Students can live in the traditional university halls or in the UGEL hostels. Each has its own schedule of residential fees, and UGEL residents sign a tenancy agreement. Residential fees must be paid in full before registration for the semester.
