The University of Jyväskylä (JYU) is a multidisciplinary research university in Jyväskylä, Central Finland. Finnish-language teacher education began here in 1863. The university has more than 15,200 students and 2,850 staff, six faculties and several independent institutes, on three campus areas: Seminaarinmäki, Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne. Its faculties cover humanities and social sciences, information technology, business and economics, education and psychology, sport and health sciences, and mathematics and science.
JYU has more than 1,000 international students each year, around 250 of them in international master's programmes. Options for international students include:
- English-taught bachelor's programmes, such as Business Innovation and Sustainability and Immersive Software Engineering and AI (three years, 180 ECTS credits)
- Two-year master's programmes taught fully in English
- Doctoral education
- Student exchange
- Summer and winter schools and the Open University
Applications for degree programmes are submitted on Studyinfo.fi during the annual application period. Citizens of countries outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland pay tuition fees for English-taught bachelor's and master's programmes; exchange students and doctoral students pay no tuition, regardless of nationality.

Deadlines
English-taught master's programmes, 2027 intake (joint degree programmes have their own dates; the university notes that exact times will be published later):
- Application period opens: 7 January 2027
- Application deadline: 21 January 2027
- Deadline for attachments: 28 January 2027
- Results: by 8 April 2027
- Deadline for accepting the study place: 13 July 2027
- Studies begin: end of August 2027
Bachelor's programmes are next open for applications in January 2027.
Scholarships and financial aid
For students who pay tuition fees (citizens of countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland):
- No university scholarship in the first year, but an Early Bird discount of €1,500 in the 2027 admission round for those who accept their place within 14 days of admission
- JYU Scholarship for continuing students, covering part of the fee from the second year, for students with sufficient academic progress (not for joint degree programmes)
The university does not offer fully funded scholarships.
