Pohjois-Savo Polytechnic, which recently was renamed the Savonia University of Applied Sciences, is one of the largest and most versatile universities of applied sciences in Finland.  Their crack team of experts aims to educate professionals in six different fields of studies, and their unique and flexible degree programs offer students the opportunity to study full-time or part-time through the university’s distance/online format.

Savonia UAS works diligently to serve the businesses in its community. The school’s research and development (R&D) activities offer high-quality services and tailor-made solutions to the development needs of the businesses and work communities. Cooperation, networking and internationalization are seen as the crucial factors of the university’s success. Programs are organized into what Savonia UAS calls Competence Networks. These networks consist of welfare products and services, energy, the environment, safety, and industrial design.

Savonia University of Applied Sciences is run and overseen by The Municipal Federation of Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The municipalities that comprise The Municipal Federation are Iisalmi, Kiuruvesi, Kuopio, Lapinlahti and Varkaus. The current manager of The Municipal Federation and the President of Savonia UAS is Mrs. Mervi Vidgrén.

How to Enroll at the Savonia University of Applied Sciences

Young and Adult Students’ Studies Leading to a Bachelor’s Degree

According to the Savonia University of Applied Science’s procedures, a student has to enroll for attendance or non-attendance for each academic year. If a student fails to enroll, he or she will lose his/her study entitlement.

New students are asked to send their confirmation form with the attendance/non-attendance information to Savonia UAS to claim their study entitlement.  Continuing students must enroll for attendance or non-attendance each academic year.  Obligation to enroll also applies to those students who are completing their studies, regardless of how many credits remain to be taken in order to finish their program.

For students who are attending at least one semester, enrollment for the next academic year must take place between the 16th of April and the 7th of September. During this time period, students can change their attendance/non-attendance status. It is each student’s responsibility to ensure the information they exchange with the university is correct and up to date.

Information for International Students

Internationality is an integral part of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences and, accordingly, it plays a significant role in strengthening and internationalizing the economic landscape of the community. Savonia UAS has higher education partners in over 30 countries. Consequently, active and dynamic student and expert exchange is part of their everyday life, and the school works closely with other universities of applied sciences with regard to international projects. In their English fields of studies, Savonia students represent over 20 different nationalities.

Savonia UAS has student exchange partners in several Nordic and EU-countries, as well as in Russia, Asia, the United States of America, and Africa. The school participates in all of the following international programs: ERASMUS+, FIRST, TEMPUS, NORDPLUS and NORTH-SOUTH-SOUTH.

Student Exchange

Students at the Savonia University of Applied Sciences are encouraged to participate in exchange programs and are even given opportunities to complete their work placements or write their theses while studying abroad. International Coordinators and International Contact Persons at each campus serve as primary sources of information.
