The University of King's College is a small university community in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. According to the college, it is Canada's oldest chartered university. It has more than 1,000 students, a student-faculty ratio of 15:1 and an average class size of 30. King's is academically linked with neighbouring Dalhousie University, so students have access to more than 2,500 courses, over 60 degree options and more than 98 exchange programmes across both institutions.
King's teaches interdisciplinary programmes in the humanities and journalism. Undergraduates earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Music (BMus) or Bachelor of Journalism (Honours). Many start with the Foundation Year Program, a first year built on a chronological study of great books, with morning lectures for the whole class and small discussion groups (tutorials) of about 15 students. A redesigned Bachelor of Journalism and Media starts in September 2027. Residence is mostly reserved for first-year students, and most King's students live off campus. Applications for summer and fall 2027 are open.

Housing
Residence at King's is mostly reserved for first-year students. Most students live off campus as so-called Day Students, and finding off-campus housing is the student's own responsibility. The college provides guidance on budgeting, searching for housing and tenants' rights, and notes that Halifax has low rental availability and rising rents. Day Students can also buy a residence meal plan or a community meal plan.
