The University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) is a university in River Falls, Wisconsin, in the St. Croix Valley about 30 minutes from Minneapolis/St. Paul. It dates back to 1874 and belongs to the Universities of Wisconsin. The university describes its campus as small, with small class sizes. In January 2026 it opened the Science and Technology Innovation Center (SciTech), which hosts science research and the University Business Collaboration Center.
UWRF offers bachelor's degrees in many fields, as well as associate degrees, graduate degrees and non-degree study. Undergraduate areas include:
- Agricultural business, animal science, dairy science and food science
- Accounting, business administration, finance and marketing
- Biology, chemistry, physics, neuroscience and environmental science
- Engineering and engineering technology
- Education, including TESOL and Spanish education
- Art, music, journalism and stage and screen arts
International students apply through a separate international admissions route. About 2,500 students, over 40% of the student body, live in the university's 11 residence halls, which have furnished rooms, wireless internet and free laundry. First-year students with a strong grade point average receive guaranteed scholarships without a separate application, and other non-resident students receive an automatic scholarship.

Fees
Estimated annual tuition for undergraduates in the 2026-27 academic year (two full-time semesters, including textbook rental):
- Wisconsin residents: US$9,440
- Minnesota residents (reciprocity): US$11,190
- Midwest Tuition rate (qualifying states): US$13,210
- Other non-residents: US$18,330 before scholarships
A double room costs an estimated US$5,100 and a 14-meal weekly plan US$3,130 a year. From fall 2026 the automatic scholarship for other non-residents rises to US$5,120, so the university says they can expect to pay the Midwest Tuition rate. Additional fees, such as the new student fee, are not included.
Scholarships and financial aid
UWRF offers need- and merit-based scholarships, both guaranteed and selective. Guaranteed Soar Achievement scholarships need no application:
- First-year students: US$1,000 (3.3 GPA), US$1,500 (3.75 GPA) or US$2,000 (4.0 GPA)
- Transfer students: US$1,000 (3.4 GPA)
From fall 2026, other non-resident students receive an automatic scholarship of US$5,120. Financial aid office: [email protected].
Housing
UWRF has 11 residence halls, and over 40% of students live on campus. Rooms are furnished and include high-speed wireless internet, free laundry and shared spaces for cooking and studying.
- Double rooms in most halls; single rooms by lottery when space allows
- Suites of four single rooms for upper-class students
- Themed communities, chosen when signing the housing contract
- Summer housing with an additional contract
The housing contract covers all breaks except summer, and the cost includes all utilities.
