The University of Nebraska–Lincoln (Nebraska) is a public land-grant university in Lincoln, Nebraska (United States), a city of over 300,000 people. It was chartered in 1869, is a member of the Big Ten Conference and the Big Ten Academic Alliance, and is classified as an R1 university (highest research activity) by the Carnegie Classification. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
Undergraduate study is organised in nine academic colleges, from Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Architecture, Arts and Sciences and Business to Education and Human Sciences, Engineering, Journalism and Mass Communications, Public Affairs and Community Service, and the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. The university also has graduate studies, online programmes and a College of Law, and programmes such as the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management. There are more than 500 student organisations.
International first-year students apply through the Common Application or Nebraska's own application. Applicants who do not meet the English requirement are conditionally admitted through the Nebraska Intensive English Program. Fully admitted students are considered for academic scholarships, and an International Welcome Team meets new students at Lincoln airport on set arrival dates.

First-year applicants apply through the Common Application or Nebraska's application (transfers through Nebraska's application) and pay a US$45 fee. Required:
- Final secondary school transcript, signed and stamped by the principal, and the school certificate/diploma
- English proficiency scores
- Core coursework: 4 units of upper-level mathematics, 3 natural sciences, 3 social sciences, 4 of English and native language
Credit is awarded for IB, A Level and CBSE courses. For the I-20, students submit a financial statement of support, passport page and a bank statement showing at least US$53,922.
General admission minimums (some colleges ask for more, e.g. Journalism: TOEFL 100, IELTS 7.0):

- IELTS 6.5, subscores 6.0
- Duolingo 110, subscores 105 (120 for Architecture and Education and Human Sciences)
- SAT Digital Reading and Writing 520 or ACT English 20
Graduates of US high schools are exempt. Applicants who do not meet the requirement are conditionally admitted through the Nebraska Intensive English Program, with full admission reviewed each semester.
- Fall 2027: applications open 1 August 2026; priority deadline 1 November 2026 (scholarship awards announced 11 February 2027); final deadline for application, enrolment deposit and scholarship materials 1 May 2027; English scores by 15 July 2027; I-20 documents by 30 July 2027
- Spring 2027: application and enrolment deposit by 1 December 2026, also the deadline for English scores and scholarship consideration; I-20 documents by 11 December 2026
Students are automatically considered for scholarships during admission, provided they are fully admitted. International applicants for fall 2027 should submit all application materials by 1 May 2027 to be considered for academic scholarships. A Supplemental Scholarship Application (deadline 1 February 2027) adds consideration for departmental, leadership and service scholarships. Need-based federal aid is for domestic students only.
New students apply for on-campus housing in MyRED after paying the enrolment deposit; for fall 2027 the housing application opens on 13 January 2027 and applications by 1 April receive a room assignment on 19 May. First-year learning communities and themed communities are available (applications by 7 April 2027). Cost estimates assume on-campus housing with 21 meals per week.
