Voronezh N.N. Burdenko State Medical University, formerly Voronezh State Medical Academy, is a federal state-funded medical university in Voronezh, Russia, under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. It is accredited by the Federal Education and Science Supervision Agency. Its history goes back to the Imperial University of Dorpat (opened in 1802), which moved to Voronezh in 1918; its medical faculty became an independent institution in 1930. In October 2023 the university had 8,025 students.

The university is made up of six faculties, four institutes and one research institute:

  • General Medicine (six-year programme leading to a Doctor of Medicine degree) and Clinical Psychology
  • Pediatrics
  • Dentistry, with its own dental clinic
  • Pharmacy and Preventive Medicine
  • Postgraduate residency training in 47 medical specialties
  • Institute of Nursing (vocational programmes in nursing, orthopedic dentistry and pharmacy)

International students are trained through the International Institute of Medical Education and Cooperation; citizens of more than 50 countries make up 8% of the student body. The programme table for international students lists Russian as the language of instruction. Admission requires passing an entrance examination, and applicants need a Russian visa from a Russian embassy or consulate in their country of residence.

Admission

General requirements for all applicants:

  • Passing the entrance examination
  • Original or notarised copy of the secondary school transcript, legalised in the country of origin
  • Certificate of recognition of foreign education issued by Glavekspertcentr
  • Payment of at least one semester's tuition fee before the programme starts

International applicants must also obtain a Russian visa from a Russian embassy or consulate in their country of residence. The university may request additional documents.
