Waldorf El Montgó is a bilingual, multicultural Waldorf school at Calle Boix 1 in Jávea, in the province of Alicante. The school states that it is authorised by the Conselleria d'Educació of the Generalitat Valenciana. Teaching follows Waldorf (Steiner) education, which shapes lessons around the stages of child development.

English and Spanish are the two languages of instruction. In the infant stage both languages are introduced naturally through rhythm, play and repetition; in primary, half of the curriculum is taught in English and half in Spanish.

  • Infant stage: two classrooms with mixed-age groups from three to six years old, with a garden in natural surroundings
  • Primary stage: main lessons of two hours in blocks of three to four weeks, with a class teacher who usually stays with the class through primary

The primary curriculum covers world literature, history, science, mathematics, foreign languages, physical education, gardening, arts (music, painting, sculpture, theatre, eurythmy) and handicrafts such as weaving and carpentry. Progress is assessed continuously and recorded in an individual profile. Admission starts with a guided visit requested through the school office, followed by interviews with the family.

Admission Requirements

Families first request a guided visit through the school office. Admission then involves two interviews: a first interview to learn about Waldorf education, the school and its facilities, and a second with the child's class teacher to discuss teaching and practical questions. Admission depends on these interviews, and the decision is taken by an admissions committee made up of the pedagogical director, the director of studies and the class teacher, together with the administration. The school expects families to understand and share the Waldorf approach.
