Admission Requirements

International first-year applicants submit the online application and have official high school transcripts sent directly by a school official; a course-by-course evaluation of foreign transcripts is recommended. A decision is usually given within two weeks of receiving a complete file. Undergraduate applications have no fee and test scores are optional.

To receive the I-20 needed for a student visa, admitted students send a colour copy of their passport, proof of English proficiency, the US$2,500 enrolment and tuition deposit, and proof of funds (most students need to show US$30,000 to US$49,000 per year, depending on their scholarship).

Language Requirements

International students must prove English proficiency before the I-20 is issued. Exemptions apply to citizens of countries where English is the official language and the language of higher education, and to graduates of at least three years at an English-medium high school. Otherwise, accepted results (from the last 24 months) include:

  • IELTS Academic 5.5
  • Duolingo English Test 100
  • SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing 450
  • ACT 17 in both Reading and English

Financial Aid

Wingate offers merit-based scholarships to international students, which can range from US$15,000 to US$30,500 but are not guaranteed. Admitted students learn their merit scholarship amount with their admission decision. The university does not offer full-ride scholarships covering tuition, fees, room and board.

Housing

The university strongly encourages students to live on campus. First-year residence halls offer double, triple and quadruple rooms, all air conditioned with Wi-Fi; the five first-year halls are coed by floor, wing or alternating room. Separate graduate housing is also available.
