Xavier University is a Jesuit Catholic university in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a history of about 200 years. It has just under 7,000 students and an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio, and offers more than 80 undergraduate majors as well as graduate programmes, on campus and online. A College of Osteopathic Medicine opened its application portal recently.
Fields mentioned on the university's site range from computer science, data analytics, economics and psychology to nursing, education and sports management. Students from 53 countries study at Xavier, and the Center for International Education runs programmes for international students. Students from Xavier's partner universities abroad can also come as exchange students for one semester or one year.
International applicants can apply as first-year, transfer, graduate or exchange students. Every admitted undergraduate is considered for a renewable merit scholarship of US$23,000 to US$30,000 per academic year, with no separate application. First-year students usually live in residence halls on campus with private or shared bedrooms, air conditioning and free laundry; older students can move into apartments and houses.

International students apply in one of four categories: first-year (starting a bachelor's degree after secondary school), transfer (with university credits from another school), graduate (master's or doctorate after a bachelor's degree) and exchange (one semester or one year from a partner university). Undergraduates can apply by an Early Action or a Regular Decision deadline. The process includes a credential evaluation and the I-20 requirements for an F-1 visa; regional international counselors help applicants.
Every admitted undergraduate is considered for a merit-based scholarship of US$23,000 to US$30,000 per academic year, renewable for four years, with no separate application; it does not cover the full cost. Additional competitive scholarships (academic, service, performing and visual arts) require applying by 1 December for fall entry. Xavier does not award need-based institutional aid or full-ride scholarships, and F-1/J-1 students cannot use the FAFSA. Graduate assistantships offer tuition remission and an hourly wage.
First-year students typically live in the residence halls Buenger, Kuhlman and Husman, which have wireless internet, air conditioning and free laundry; most are suite-style. Sophomores, juniors and seniors can also choose suite-style halls, apartments with shared kitchens, townhouses and university-managed houses.
