About Hyderabad

Hyderabad is the capital of the state of Telangana in southern India and one of the country's largest cities. Alongside its historic old city, it has grown into a major centre for information technology, pharmaceuticals and business services, concentrated in western districts such as Gachibowli and HITEC City.

For international students, Hyderabad is above all a destination for management education taught in English, and also offers hospitality and culinary training and schools following India's CBSE curriculum for families who move to the city.

Studying in Hyderabad

Our directory currently lists three schools in Hyderabad: a business school, a hotel management and culinary arts college, and a group of primary and secondary schools.

  • The Indian School of Business (ISB), with its campus in Gachibowli and a second campus in Mohali, marks 25 years. Its best-known programme is the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), a one-year, full-time residential course for candidates with at least two years of work experience. ISB also runs the PGP YL for recent graduates with up to two years of experience (20 months, full-time, in Hyderabad) and the PGP PRO for working professionals with five or more years of experience (18 months, modular). Applications for the PGP Class of 2026-27 are closed; the next cycle opens for the Class of 2027-28.
  • The Indian Institute of Hotel Management & Culinary Arts (IIHMCA), in Habsiguda, has trained culinary professionals since 2001. Its Bachelor's Degree in Catering Technology and Culinary Arts (BCT&CA) is affiliated to Osmania University, and the institute is approved by the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET), Telangana.
  • The Creek Planet School has run schools in Hyderabad since 2008; its branches in areas such as Bachupally, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Medchal and Chandanagar are affiliated to the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).

To compare institutions across India, the Government of India's Study in India programme, run by the Ministry of Education, lists more than 24,000 courses at more than 1,200 Indian institutes.

Cost of living for students

We found no official figures for student rents or living costs in Hyderabad. Costs vary a lot between the IT districts in the west of the city and other neighbourhoods. ISB's PGP and PGP YL are residential programmes, so check what the published fee includes, and ask each school for its current tuition and housing prices before you apply.

Visa and registration

Foreign students need an Indian student visa, which they can apply for after receiving an admission offer letter from a recognised institution. According to Study in India, student visas are issued for up to five years, depending on the length of the course. After arrival, students must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) through the online e-FRRO system within 14 days of their first arrival, whatever the length of their stay.

Getting around and daily life

Hyderabad has a metro network and city buses, but distances are long and traffic is heavy, so students often live close to their campus. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport connects the city with the rest of India and with international destinations.
