The Academy of Art University is a private university owned by the Stephens Institute. The institution was established in San Francisco, California in 1929 by Richard S. Stephens. Receiving about 18,000 students per year the Academy of Art University is the largest art and design school in the United States. The school has made available both on-campus and distance education degrees and certificate programs in its fine arts programs. The university offers undergraduate opportunities such as Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts; its graduate options include Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Architecture; as well as certificate programs for personal enrichment. The Academy of Art University offers degree and certificate programs in 18 majors: Acting, Advertising, Animation and Visual Effects, Architecture, Art Education, Fashion, Fine Art, Game Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, and many others.
