Carson-Newman University

Carson-Newman University is a private Christian liberal arts university in Jefferson City, Tennessee, founded in 1851. Its 120-acre campus in Jefferson County, East Tennessee, lies in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains between Douglas and Cherokee lakes, about 35 minutes from Knoxville.

The university offers 50 undergraduate majors and 11 graduate degrees, as well as an associate degree that allows students to move on to a bachelor's programme. Students can study on campus, online or at a location at Pellissippi State Community College, Strawberry Plains. Carson-Newman prepares students for professional and health careers such as dentistry, law, medicine, business and physical therapy. Study abroad options include the Al Akhawayn University Exchange Program, Asian exchange programmes, a London Program and an Oxford Term.

Students come from more than 45 nations and the student-to-faculty ratio is 14:1. The university is authorised to enrol nonimmigrant students, and its Office of International Student Services provides airport pick-up at the beginning and end of each semester, help with moving into campus housing, an orientation and help opening a bank account. Merit-based academic and talent scholarships are available, including for international students. There are more than 70 campus organisations, and student-athletes compete in 20 varsity sports at NCAA Division II level.
