College for Creative Studies

The College for Creative Studies (CCS) is a nonprofit, private art and design college in Midtown Detroit, Michigan, authorised by the Michigan Education Department to grant bachelor's and master's degrees. It was founded in 1906 as the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts and enrols nearly 1,400 students. Its Walter and Josephine Ford campus is next to the Detroit Institute of Arts, which CCS students can visit free of charge.

CCS offers Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Business Management (90 credits over three years) and graduate degrees (MFA, MA and Master of Professional Studies). Programmes include:

• BFA in Communication Design & Strategy, Illustration and Photography
• BFA in Entertainment Arts and Film
• BFA in Fashion Design, Interior Design and Product Design
• BFA in Transportation Design and Studio Art & Craft
• Graduate programmes in Color and Materials Design, Design for Sustainability, Transportation Design and User Experience Design
• Art Education (teaching certification and graduate degree)

The BFA requires 121 credit hours, 75 of them in studio areas; first-year students take Foundation courses in drawing, colour theory and basic design. Applications can be submitted through CCS or the Common App, and some departments require a portfolio.
