Skydive Empuriabrava
Vocational school in Empuriabrava, Spain
Skydive Empuriabrava is a skydiving centre and school at the Empuriabrava aerodrome (Sector Aeroclub, Empuriabrava, Girona) on the Costa Brava. The skydiving centre was set up in February 1984 by Roland Hilfiker as the Centre de Paracaigudisme Costa Brava, which introduced the AFF (accelerated free fall) training method there. The school is open all year to first-time tandem jumpers and experienced skydivers, and its instructors speak several languages.
- Tandem jumps with an instructor
- PAC (AFF) course: the standard international skydiving course
- PAC Plus course, which adds wind-tunnel training at Windoor Empuriabrava next door
- Paracaigudista per un dia: a one-day introduction to free fall
- Virtual-reality free-fall simulator and wind tunnel
The PAC course takes about 5 to 7 days depending on the weather, or can be spread over several weekends. It starts with theory (equipment, free-fall positions, parachute opening, emergency procedures and landing) and a tandem jump from 4,000 metres, followed by seven levels: the first three with two instructors and levels 4 to 7 with one. The course is internationally recognised, so graduates can jump at other drop zones. Courses can be booked individually or in groups and paid in three instalments. The school does not list its own housing, but suggests hotels, apartments and campsites in Empuriabrava.
