The Division of Spanish and Portuguese Studies within the University of Washington is dedicated to the creation and spreading of knowledge of the Spanish and Portuguese languages as well as the literatures and cultures of Spain, Portugal, Latin America and US Latinos. The NW CÁDIZ program in particular provides an opportunity for American students to live and study in Cádiz, Spain, for one semester (fall or win-spr) or a full academic year. The program is administered by the University of Washington, and operates under a formal working agreement with the University of Cádiz. It is the only full-year American study-abroad program located in Cádiz. Students are accommodated in a small student residence hall or with a private family, and attend classes at the University of Cádiz's Facultad de Filosofía y Letras. NW CÁDIZ courses are especially designed for the program's students, being taught in Spanish by members of the University of Cádiz faculty.

Other destinations include León, Spain, as well as Oaxaca, Mexico and Quito, Ecuador.
