The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is an American public research university, which was founded in 1966, as part of the University System of Maryland. The university has established a focus on the natural sciences and engineering, but also provides programs in the liberal arts. The school offers 54 majors, 42 minors and 20 certificate educational opportunities in its undergraduate program. UMBC's Graduate School has made available 33 master's degree programs, 23 doctoral degree programs and 20 graduate certificate programs. The institution consists of three colleges - The College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, The College of Engineering and Information Technology, The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; two schools - The Erickson School of Aging, The School of Social Work and a graduate school.
