Universal de Idiomas
San Jose, Costa Rica
Universal de Idiomas is a language centre with branches in San José, Costa Rica, and Panama City, Panama. It has provided language teaching in both countries since 1981. The centre teaches English, German, Portuguese, French and Italian, and its home page also lists courses of Spanish for foreigners. Courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Courses are offered in several formats:
- Self-study on the centre's online platform
- Blended courses combining live classes and online self-study
- Live group classes, online via Zoom or in person
- Private classes with a tailored programme
According to the centre, English students can reach an intermediate level in 7 or 12 months. Online group courses include digital materials, a WhatsApp support group and a conversation club for Portuguese and English. A placement test on the first day of class places students in the right group; beginners do not need to take it. The Costa Rica branch is in San Pedro de Montes de Oca, San José, and the Panama branch is in Bellavista, Panama City. Students register online and sign a registration form on or before the first day of lessons.
