Universidad Autónoma de Chile is a private, non-profit university founded in Temuco, in the Araucanía region, on 31 July 1989 under the name Universidad Autónoma del Sur. It later expanded to the Maule and Santiago Metropolitan regions and took its current name. Today it has four campuses, in Santiago (Providencia and El Llano Subercaseaux), Talca and Temuco, and more than 32,000 students. The Chilean National Accreditation Commission (CNA Chile) granted it advanced-level institutional accreditation for five years, valid until 13 August 2030.
Teaching is organised in seven faculties:
- Business and Administration
- Architecture, Construction and Environment
- Health Sciences, including Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing
- Social Sciences and Humanities
- Law
- Education
- Engineering
Degree programmes are offered as daytime courses, evening "Vespertina TECH" courses for students who work, online and blended programmes. The university also offers diplomas, master's degrees and doctorates. Admission is mainly through the national centralised system (DEMRE/Acceso Mineduc), with a special admission route for most programmes. The university takes part in the state free-tuition scheme (Gratuidad), which 78% of its students currently receive. Students living abroad can find exchange agreements and open calls through its international office.

- Business: Ingeniería Comercial, Ingeniería en Administración, Ingeniería en Control de Gestión
- Architecture and construction: Arquitectura, Ingeniería en Construcción
- Health sciences: Medicina, Odontología, Enfermería, Kinesiología, Fonoaudiología, Nutrición y Dietética, Obstetricia y Puericultura, Química y Farmacia, Terapia Ocupacional
- Social sciences: Psicología, Periodismo, Trabajo Social, Administración Pública, Publicidad y Comunicación Integral
- Law: Derecho
- Education: teacher training (Pedagogía) in several subjects, Psicopedagogía, Licenciatura en Artes Visuales
- Engineering: Ingeniería Civil Industrial, Informática and Química
Evening (Vespertina TECH) and online programmes are also offered.
Scholarships and financial aid
Since late 2015 the university has taken part in Chile's state free-tuition scheme (Gratuidad); currently 78% of its students study with this benefit. Students apply within the official deadlines through the Formulario Único de Acreditación Socioeconómica (FUAS).
