The Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) is a university in Caracas whose main campus, the Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The campus is linked to the architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva and to the "Síntesis de las Artes Mayores", a collection of works by artists such as Alexander Calder, Fernand Léger and Victor Vasarely.

UCV offers undergraduate and postgraduate studies, diplomas, short courses and distance education through its virtual campus. Its faculties include:

  • Agronomy and Veterinary Sciences
  • Architecture and Urbanism
  • Sciences and Engineering
  • Economic and Social Sciences; Law and Political Science
  • Humanities and Education
  • Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry

At postgraduate level, the university lists more than 386 programmes leading to specialist, master's (Magister Scientiarum) and doctoral degrees. Through cooperation agreements with universities in the Americas and Europe, undergraduate and postgraduate students can take part in mobility programmes. Undergraduate admission has several routes, including the general admission process, the Samuel Robinson programme and agreements (Acta Convenio). Student services include a student welfare office, the central library, a university dining hall and transport.

Graduate programmes

UCV offers more than 386 postgraduate programmes leading to the titles of Especialista, Magister Scientiarum and Doctor, run by its faculties (Agronomy, Architecture and Urbanism, Sciences, Economic and Social Sciences, Law and Political Science, Veterinary Sciences, Pharmacy, Humanities and Education, Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry) and by the CENDES and CENAMB centres. It also offers postdoctoral activities and professional development and refresher courses that do not lead to a degree.
