The Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) is a university based in Mérida, Venezuela. According to the university, it is the second oldest university in the country, and it describes Mérida as the university city of Venezuela; its website records its first graduating class in 1808. Besides the main campus in Mérida, the ULA has regional centres (núcleos) in Trujillo, Táchira and El Vigía and an extension in Tovar.
Undergraduate degrees (carreras) are taught in eleven faculties:
- Art, and Architecture and Design
- Sciences, and Forestry and Environmental Sciences
- Economic and Social Sciences, and Law and Political Science
- Pharmacy and Bioanalysis, Medicine and Dentistry
- Humanities and Education
- Engineering
Postgraduate studies are coordinated by the Council for Postgraduate Studies (CEP). New students enter a degree through the admission processes published by the university, and continuing students register online through the ULA-SIRE system. The student affairs office (DAES) runs a scholarship programme, student residences, a dining hall and transport; places in the residences are for undergraduates with limited financial means.

Housing
The ULA has student residences for undergraduate students with limited financial means. To apply, students must be active regular students, have an up-to-date file with the student affairs office (DAES) and have passed more than 75% of their courses (semester system) or 70% (annual system) in the last period. The written application is submitted in person to DAES and followed by an interview. The university notes that demand far exceeds the number of places; approved students move in when a place becomes available.
