The Université de La Réunion (University of Reunion) is the university of Reunion Island, the French territory in the Indian Ocean, and the only university on the island. Higher education there began in 1963 with an institute of legal, economic and political studies; it became a university by decree of 15 October 1982. The university states that it has more than 18,400 students and over 200 programmes.
Teaching is organised in faculties, institutes and schools, including:
- Faculties of Law and Economics, Science and Technology, Letters and Human Sciences, and Health
- Faculty of Human and Environmental Sciences
- Institut Universitaire de Technologie (IUT)
- IAE Réunion, a university school of management
- ESIROI engineering school
- INSPE teacher-training institute
The main campus is the Campus du Moufia in Saint-Denis, which houses three faculties, sports and student-life facilities, and the central administration. Other campuses and sites are in Saint-Denis (Bellepierre, Victoire, Technopole), Le Tampon and Saint-Pierre (Terre-Sainte), with an antenna in Mayotte. The university also has a Maison des langues (language centre) and a Confucius Institute. Students with disabilities can register with the Mission Handicap service for support, and the student records office (scolarité) handles enrolment, admissions and international students.
