The University of Warsaw (Uniwersytet Warszawski, UW) is a university in Warsaw, Poland, with its main address at Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28. It was founded by a decree of Tsar Alexander I on 19 November 1816 and opened in 1818 as the Royal University of Warsaw. According to the university, nearly 40,000 students and doctoral candidates study there. UW is a member of the 4EU+ Alliance.

For the 2026-27 academic year, 38,800 applicants submitted 76,900 applications, and about 17,300 students were admitted to first-cycle and integrated master's programmes and 4,300 to second-cycle programmes.
