Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi (YSMU) is a state medical university in Yerevan, Armenia, with a history of about 100 years of training medical professionals. According to the university, it has more than 8,000 students, 24% of them from 33 other countries, and around 1,100 lecturers. Its homepage refers to international accreditation by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Teaching is in Armenian, Russian and English.

  • General Medicine: six years, leading to the qualification MD Physician
  • Stomatology (dentistry): five years, Doctor of Stomatology
  • Pharmacy: four-year bachelor's degree and one-year master's degree (Master of Pharmacy)

International applicants need secondary or secondary vocational education, register online through fs.emis.am and sit two entrance exams of their choice from physics, chemistry and biology. Applicants who do not pass can join the university's preparatory department for foreign students. International students live in the university hostel in rooms for two or three people. Teaching is in Armenian, Russian and English.

Admission

Foreign applicants need secondary or secondary vocational education and apply online through fs.emis.am. Admission to the first year requires passing two entrance exams chosen from physics, chemistry and biology, based on the secondary-school curriculum. Applicants who fail can enrol in the preparatory department for foreign students. Applicants from India must hold a NEET qualification, and applicants from Sri Lanka must pass all three exams.

Fees

Annual tuition for foreign students taught in English, as published for 2026-27 admission (Armenian drams, AMD):

  • General Medicine: AMD 2,600,000 per year
  • Pharmacy, bachelor's degree: AMD 2,100,000 per year
  • Pharmacy, master's degree: AMD 2,200,000 per year

The annual tuition stays the same for the whole period of study.

Housing

International students are accommodated in the university hostel, in rooms shared by two or three people. Students must also take out medical insurance every year.
