About Majadahonda
Majadahonda is a residential town in the Community of Madrid, north-west of the capital. It had 73,625 registered residents on 1 January 2025, according to the municipal population figures of Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE). The town is part of the Madrid metropolitan area and is linked to the city by interurban buses.
For international families, Majadahonda is above all a place for schooling: every school in our directory here is an international school for children and teenagers. It suits families who work in Madrid and want a British, international or bilingual education close to home.
Studying in Majadahonda
Our directory lists 3 active schools in Majadahonda, all of them international schools. They follow different models, so it is worth comparing the curriculum, the language of instruction and the final qualification:
- Engage International School, formerly San Luis Gonzaga, is a private international school for pupils aged 0 to 18 and part of the Dukes Education group. It is in the town centre, on a 12,000 m² site. Older pupils follow the Spanish system up to the bachillerato, and from the second year of ESO they can join a dual diploma programme that adds the American High School Diploma to the Spanish bachillerato.
- Alegra School opened in September 2011, founded by a group of families, and combines an international approach with Catholic values; its chaplaincy is entrusted to Opus Dei. It was accredited as a British school for Early Years through the British Council and is an IB World School teaching the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP).
- Thames British School was established in 2015 and belongs to a group with schools in the UK, Spain, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. Classes are taught entirely in English and follow the National Curriculum for England, up to Cambridge International AS and A Levels. Pupils who arrive without Spanish can follow a Spanish Induction Programme.
Cost of living and school fees
Private international schools are the main cost for families here. Engage International School publishes monthly fees: €683 a month in Nursery and €861 a month in bachillerato, including other schooling costs such as books and digital platforms (fees page checked in October 2026). Thames British School charges its fees per term, three terms a year: the annual tuition is €9,650 in Reception and €14,480 in Year 13, and an enrolment fee of €1,250 applies from Key Stage 1. Thames charges lunch separately each term and notes that optional services, such as school trips, may cost extra.
Public transport is cheap for young people. The Madrid transport consortium (CRTM) Abono Joven costs €10 for 30 days of unlimited travel in all fare zones, from zone A to E2, for anyone aged 15 until their 26th birthday. We have not found an official source with current rent levels in Majadahonda, so we give no figure.
Getting around and daily life
Interurban buses connect Majadahonda and Pozuelo de Alarcón with Madrid under the CRTM's CM-61 concession. Several schools run their own buses: Thames British School, for example, offers morning and afternoon routes across Madrid for pupils from Early Years upwards.
The climate is that of Madrid: cool winters and hot, dry summers. At the AEMET Madrid Retiro station (normals for 1981-2010), the average temperature is 6.3 °C in January and 25.6 °C in July, when average daily highs reach 32.1 °C.
