Avila University

Avila University is a Catholic university in Kansas City, Missouri, founded and inspired by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. It offers undergraduate and graduate education in the liberal arts and professional studies on a 50-acre campus in a quiet suburb of South Kansas City. Its history goes back to St. Teresa's Academy, established in 1866; the school became St. Teresa's College, a two-year college for women, in 1916, moved to its present campus and took the name Avila College in 1963, and became fully coeducational in 1969.

Programmes are offered on campus and online, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1. Every degree includes community service, undergraduates are guaranteed a research or internship experience, and the university offers a four-year on-time graduation guarantee.

Applications are free, with a separate application route for international students at undergraduate and graduate level. Students can live on campus in Buchanan, Wylie and Thompson halls or in the Villa Ventura Apartments, and the campus has its own gallery and performing arts centre.

  • Master of Science in Technology Management, with seven concentrations
  • M.S. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Business Analytics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering Operations and Digital Marketing
  • MBA and MA in Management
  • Master's programmes in Kinesiology, Management and Organizational Development Psychology, Psychology and Counseling Psychology, and Strategic Communication
  • Education master's programmes and teacher certification
  • Graduate certificates, for example in Strategic Human Resources, Project Management and Executive Leadership Development

Housing

On-campus housing and rates for the 2026-27 academic year:

  • Buchanan Hall: single to quad rooms, US$5,000 to US$8,500 per academic year; priority for first- and second-year students; 14- or 19-meal plan required
  • Wylie Hall: suites for 4-6 people with private rooms, US$8,500 per year
  • Thompson Hall: 4-person suites with private rooms, US$9,000 per year; priority for second-year students and above
  • Villa Ventura Apartments: studios and one- or two-bedroom apartments, US$6,000 to US$15,000 for a 12-month lease; residents must be 21 or older

Meal plans cost from US$936 to US$5,116 per academic year.

Accreditation

Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Avila University programs are also accredited by: Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences Council on Social Work Education Missouri State Board of Nursing Missouri State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission The Paralegal Program is approved by the American Bar Association.
